As per IBEF report, India’s food processing sector is one of the largest in the world and its output is expected to reach US$ 535 billion by 2025-26. This sector is expected to generate 9 million jobs by 2024. The Indian food industry is expanding at a CAGR of 11% and the food processing sector accounts for 32% of the total food industry. By 2030, Indian annual household consumption is expected to triple, making India the fifth-largest consumer in the world.
The State of Uttar Pradesh (UP) is India’s biggest producer of Wheat, Mango, Potato, Peas, Gooseberry, Watermelon and it is also India’s leading processing center of Fruits & Vegetables, Dairy, Poultry, Sugar, Rice, Meat, Confectionery, Snack food, etc. The newly sworn in State Government in Uttar Pradesh in March 2022 have set a target of $1 Trillion economy by 2025 in which agriculture and allied industries are going to play a major role.
The level of value addition and processing of Agriculture & Horticulture produce in India as well as in UP is very low compared to other developed countries in the world which stands at 10% & 6% respectively. Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh has targeted to increase it to 20%. As such, there is a big scope for investment in Food Processing Industries in India and in Uttar Pradesh.
Keeping in view the need for promoting Food Processing Industries, Indian Industries Association (IIA) an apex body of MSME’s in North India is organizing India Food Expo (IFX) since 2004 at Lucknow.
India Food Expo demonstrates as a leading platform in India for the food processing industry. The industry meets at this show aims to exchange new developments and showcase the future of the food processing industry in India.
